Katherine Pierce (Katerina Petrova) || Vampire/Petrova Doppelganger || Diet: Carnivorous || Special Ability: Power of Seduction
Katherine is one of the most powerful vampires in existence, aside from the Originals, the Volturi and the gifted Cullens. This is because of her ability to seduce anyone she pleases. Similarly to compulsion, her charming technique allows her to take complete control of her victim, making them do or say anything she likes, as well as appearing irresistible to them. Not many are able to resist her, as it effects both humans, vampires and original vampires alike. However, it will work on shapeshifters/werewolves to some extent, but not as effectively. Therefore, only one original is known to be able to resist her ability: Niklaus Mikaelson.
When she uses her power, the victim falls under a trance. This ability isn't constantly activated, so to do this she will usually make eye contact with the victim, flash her most winning smile or perform an entrancing dance of sorts. It has proven to be quite reliable in allowing her to escape from life threatening situations, as the victim will still be in a trance even after she has disappeared, but it will fade within half an hour. Katherine has been described as a succubus, or even the Devil himself, but not many know her real story.
Katerina Petrova (Bulgarian: Катерина Петрова), better known as Katherine Pierce, is a witch of the Traveller subculture, and the third known doppelgänger of Amara. She was born in Bulgaria, 1473, and after giving birth to a baby girl out of wedlock around the age of 16, she was disowned and exiled to England. She quickly assimilated into her new culture and met two nobleman brothers, Niklaus and Elijah Mikaelson. At first, she was attracted to the two brothers. However, she later learned that she was a Petrova Doppelgänger, and that Klaus was planning on using her as a sacrifice in order to break the curse that bound his werewolf side.
She sabotaged his plan by running away with the moonstone, which bound the curse, but Trevor found her and knowing that he was in love with her, she knew that he wouldn't kill her. So, she found a sharp object and slit her wrists, making it impossible for him not to feed on her. Her theory was proven correct, but Trevor stopped before he drained her, thus beginning her transition into a vampire. Trevor took her into hiding, and three days later Katerina was a vampire. Rose found out where she and Trevor were hiding, and convinced Trevor that all three of them should return to Klaus and beg for mercy. Katerina knew that was suicide, and it was then that she discovered her ability. She charmed them both and then escaped, managing to do the same to anyone who Klaus sent after her.
When Klaus learned of her transformation, he was both infuriated and intrigued, hearing what she was capable of. He then made it his life's mission to hunt her down, to either kill her for sabotaging his plan or enslave her as part of his clan, due to her strong ability. Not only had the Mikaelsons heard of her talents, but the Volturi soon became aware, and then she was not only on the run from Klaus but from them – which she has been doing for the past 500 years.
At some point between the 15th and 19th centuries, she took on the alias Katherine Pierce (which is an anglicized version of her birth name), and eventually met and befriended Pearl, Anna, Emily Bennett, and Dorothy (Mikaelson). In the late 19th century, she traveled to Mystic Falls, where she met Stefan and Damon Salvatore while they hosted her at the Salvatore Estate. She later fell in love with both brothers, and subsequently turned them both into vampires. When the Town Council found out the identities of the vampires in town, she faked her death and escaped being sealed in the tomb, with the aid of George Lockwood, who helped her in exchange for the moonstone.
